Rahul Gandhi Targets Government Over China, Questions Foreign Secretary's Cake-Cutting Ceremony. Anurag Thakur Responds, Accusing Congress of Past Failures.
Politics: Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, launched a sharp attack on the government regarding its handling of relations with China. He questioned a photograph showing Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri cutting a cake with the Chinese ambassador. Gandhi stated, "China has taken four thousand kilometers of our land, twenty of our soldiers have been martyred, yet the Foreign Secretary is cutting a cake with the Chinese ambassador. The PM and the President are writing letters to China, as the Chinese ambassador himself is stating."
Political Uproar Over Photo
Gandhi's statement referred to a photograph shared by the Chinese ambassador on April 1st, depicting Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri at the Chinese embassy. This photo sparked controversy, with the opposition criticizing the government and raising questions about India's relationship with China.
Anurag Thakur's Sharp Rebuttal
Union Minister Anurag Thakur responded to Gandhi's statement. He countered, "Under which government did Aksai Chin go to China? At that time, the slogan 'Hindi-Chini bhai-bhai' was raised, and the country was stabbed in the back. During the Doklam standoff, when the Indian Army was stationed at the border, who was drinking Chinese soup with Chinese officials?" Thakur sarcastically suggested that Congress should first reflect on its own history.
Government Clarification on Vikram Misri's Visit to China
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited the Chinese embassy to commemorate 75 years of India-China relations. He stated that both countries have resolved several disagreements over the past seven and a half decades and need to continue working together. The government clarified that this was a formal visit and had no connection to the border dispute.
