Congress's Privilege Motion Against Amit Shah Rejected in Rajya Sabha
Delhi News: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar dismissed a breach of privilege notice against Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday, March 27th. The notice had been filed by Congress's chief whip, Jairam Ramesh, on Wednesday.
Congress's Allegation
The Congress accused Amit Shah of indirectly making aspersions against Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi during his response to a bill in the upper house. The notice was filed under Rule 188 of the Rajya Sabha Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.
Jairam Ramesh's Claims
Jairam Ramesh stated that Amit Shah had claimed that during Congress rule, only one family controlled the party, and that the Congress president was part of that family. He further alleged that the Home Minister's statement aimed to tarnish Sonia Gandhi's reputation.
Amit Shah's Statement
During the debate on the Disaster Management Bill 2024 on Tuesday, Amit Shah had stated that the PM's Relief Fund was created during Congress rule, while the PM CARES Fund was initiated during the current government's tenure. Shah asserted that this fund was controlled by only one family during the Congress regime.
Setback for Congress in Rajya Sabha
The dismissal of the breach of privilege notice represents a significant setback for the Congress in the Rajya Sabha. However, despite this decision, Congress is likely to continue its protest against Amit Shah's statement.
