Bangladesh's Chief of Army Staff, General Wakar-uz-Zaman, has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation and political instability in the country. He warned that if political parties fail to resolve their differences, the country's sovereignty and independence could be severely threatened.

General Zaman urged all political parties to resolve their differences and work together to maintain peace and stability in the country. He clearly stated that the army's primary priority is currently restoring law and order, after which they intend to return to barracks.

Warning from Bangladesh's Chief of Army Staff

At a military function, General Wakar-uz-Zaman stated, "The chaos we see today is, in some way, of our own making." He also expressed concern about the state of the police department, saying that officers, from junior to senior ranks, are operating in a climate of fear due to colleagues facing legal cases or imprisonment.

General Zaman said, "The growing environment of violence and anarchy in society could endanger the country's sovereignty." This statement raises questions about Bangladesh's security situation, potentially exacerbating the crisis.

Call for Peace, Blow to Politics

General Zaman appealed for peace among Bangladeshi citizens, stating that if political parties continue to feud, the country's independence and integrity will be jeopardized. He further stated that the political parties' preoccupation with mutual accusations allows criminals to exploit the situation.

He also mentioned that this critical situation could impact student-led movements.

Possibility of Elections in Bangladesh

General Wakar-uz-Zaman also commented on the upcoming elections. He said, "I said earlier that elections might take 18 months, and we are moving in that direction." However, he also mentioned that Professor Yunus is working on this, but he did not make any formal statement regarding the elections.

Meanwhile, the Yunus government has announced that the next general election in Bangladesh will be held towards the end of this year or early 2026. This announcement could further complicate the electoral process and the country's political crisis.

What will become of the Yunus Government?

Amidst Bangladesh's escalating political crisis and the Chief of Army Staff's warning, speculation about the future of the Yunus government has intensified. Opposition parties are continuously pressuring the government, and the army's statement has further deepened the political instability.
