Agreement on Local Currency Settlement System
To strengthen financial cooperation between India and Mauritius, an agreement was reached between the Reserve Bank of India and the Central Bank of Mauritius on a local currency settlement system. Under this system, trade transactions between the two countries will be conducted in local currencies, reducing dependence on foreign exchange and accelerating trade.
Cooperation in Water Management and Pipe Replacement Project
India has decided to provide financial assistance to Mauritius under a pipe replacement program to strengthen its water supply system. A credit facility agreement was signed between the State Bank of India and the Mauritian government for this project, ensuring a clean water supply in Mauritius.
PM Modi Considers Mauritius a Bridge to the 'Global South'
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Mauritius as a bridge between the 'Global South' and India. He stated that Mauritius is not just a partner nation but an integral part of India's family. Addressing the Indian diaspora in Port Louis, the Prime Minister assured full Indian participation in Mauritius' development. Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, his wife, and cabinet ministers were also present.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the joint efforts of India and Mauritius in securing the Indian Ocean region. He stated that India has always been a reliable friend of Mauritius and will continue to provide all possible assistance in maritime security. India reiterated its commitment to assisting Mauritius in tackling piracy, illegal fishing, and other maritime crimes.

Modi used the Bhojpuri language several times in his speech, evoking b emotions among the Indian diaspora. He said, "Whenever I come to Mauritius, I feel like I am among my own people." Modi also announced the extension of the 'Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI)' card to the seventh generation of people of Indian origin, further strengthening the connection between people of Indian origin in Mauritius and India.
