Earthquake Shakes Nepal Late at Night. Tremors, originating 25 km below the surface, caused widespread panic, forcing people out of their homes, many of whom were asleep at the time.
Nepal Earthquake: A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal at approximately 4:30 AM on Monday morning. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake's epicenter was located 25 kilometers below the Earth's surface, resulting in bly felt tremors.
Atmosphere of Panic
The earthquake struck while most people were asleep. The tremors caused widespread fear, prompting people to flee their homes. Many reported feeling their beds shaking. However, no significant damage or casualties have been reported so far.
Shallow Earthquakes More Dangerous
Experts state that shallow earthquakes are considered more dangerous. The energy released directly impacts the surface, causing greater vibrations and damage. In contrast, the energy from deeper earthquakes dissipates before reaching the surface.
Earthquakes in Japan and Myanmar
On the same day, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Japan. Previously, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar on March 28th caused widespread devastation, resulting in over 3,000 deaths and thousands left homeless. India provided assistance to Myanmar and Thailand.
Tibet Also Affected
Tremors were also recorded in Tibet a few days prior. These successive earthquakes have increased concerns in South Asian countries. Scientists are closely monitoring seismic activity, and the public has been advised to remain vigilant.
