Tourist Submarine Sinks in the Red Sea: A tourist submarine sank off the coast of Hurghada, Egypt, in the Red Sea on Thursday, March 27, 2025, with 44 passengers onboard. The accident is feared to have resulted in six deaths and nine injuries.
Sindbad Submarine Incident
The sunken submarine, named "Sindbad," had been operating for several years, showcasing the underwater world to tourists. It was renowned for its excursions to depths of approximately 25 meters (82 feet), allowing passengers to view coral reefs and tropical fish. The submarine could descend to a depth of 72 feet, offering spectacular underwater views. Designed in Finland, the Sindbad was one of 14 real recreational submarines worldwide capable of carrying 44 passengers on underwater tours.
Accident and Rescue Operation
Following the sinking, coastal security forces and local agencies immediately launched a rescue operation. As a result, 29 passengers were rescued and transported to the nearest hospital. Four of the injured were critically injured and are receiving hospital treatment. Given the severity of the incident, 21 ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
Condition of the Injured and Hospital Admissions
Rescued passengers received prompt medical attention, and all injured individuals were admitted to the hospital for treatment. Those critically injured are under specialized medical supervision, while the condition of other injured passengers is reported as stable.
