Sports News: Indian cricket star Mohammed Shami is once again in the headlines, but this time not for his cricketing prowess, but for a personal religious decision. He is facing online trolling for not observing Roza during the holy month of Ramadan. However, religious leaders have offered differing opinions on the matter.

A picture of Shami drinking an energy drink during a match has gone viral. Some hardliners are criticizing him, accusing him of not adhering to Islamic traditions. Several social media users have questioned Shami's religious devotion.

Maulana Shahabuddin calls it a "sin"

Bareilly's Maulana Shahabuddin Rizvi stated that observing Roza during Ramadan is obligatory in Islam, and those who do not are considered sinners. He said, "Mohammed Shami has violated Sharia by not observing Roza. He should reflect on this and fulfill his religious responsibilities." Conversely, Maulana Arshad, Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid, defended Shami, stating that Islam allows exemption from Roza for those traveling.

He added, "Shami is currently playing for the country and is traveling; therefore, he is not obligated to observe Roza. The Quran also provides clear instructions on this. People should refrain from making unwarranted criticisms without considering all aspects."

Support from the Cricket World

Rohit Pawar, President of the Maharashtra Cricket Association, also voiced his support for Shami. He said, "Shami is a professional athlete, and maintaining his physical well-being is paramount. If he needs an energy drink, there's nothing wrong with it. Performance in sports is supreme, and Shami is representing the nation; this should be the primary consideration."

Despite the trolling, Mohammed Shami has yet to respond to the controversy. He is currently focused on his fitness and preparing for upcoming matches.
