Cricket is returning to the Olympics after 128 years, with matches to be held in Pomona, Southern California. The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced that cricket matches at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will be played at a temporary ground in Pomona.

Sports News: Cricket's return to the 2028 Olympics marks a historic moment. After nearly 128 years, cricket's inclusion has generated significant excitement among sports enthusiasts. The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced that all cricket matches will be played in Pomona, Southern California.

This Pomona venue, known as Fairplex, is located approximately 50 kilometers from Los Angeles and spans 500 acres. The area has hosted the Los Angeles County Fair since 1922 and will now be prepared as a temporary cricket ground.

Cricket Matches at the Olympics

This is the first time cricket has been included in the Olympics since 1900. Cricket's return in 2028 will feature six men's and six women's teams competing in the T20 format. A total of 90 players will participate, with 15 players per team. ICC Chairman Jay Shah stated, "This is a significant step towards bringing cricket to a global platform. Cricket's return to the 2028 Olympics will increase the sport's popularity and create opportunities for a new audience."

Other Sports Included in the 2028 Olympics Besides Cricket

In addition to cricket, four other sports have been included in this year's Olympics: baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash. There is also speculation that cricket may be included in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. The temporary cricket ground being built in Pomona will resemble the temporary grounds constructed for the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup. This ground will host major matches, and it is hoped that this will usher in a new chapter for Olympic cricket.
