Sports News: Mumbai Indians reaffirmed their dominance, winning the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 title. In a thrilling final match, under Harmanpreet Kaur's leadership, Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by 8 runs, achieving the honor of becoming champions for the second time. Previously, Mumbai won the inaugural WPL title in 2023, and now they have become the team with the most championship wins in the tournament's history.

For Delhi Capitals, the final once again remained an "unfinished story." Reaching the final for the third consecutive time, Delhi failed to win the trophy this year. Last year, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the title, but this time Mumbai showcased their supremacy.

Harmanpreet's Powerful Captaincy Innings

Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first, but Mumbai Indians' batters proved them wrong. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur played a brilliant innings of 66 runs off 44 balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes. Nat Sciver-Brunt also contributed significantly with 30 runs. Mumbai scored 149 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs, a challenging score in a high-pressure final. In this match, Nat Sciver became the first batter to score 1000 runs in the WPL, a historic moment for the tournament.

Delhi's Hopes Dashed

Chasing 150 runs, Delhi Capitals received early setbacks from the first over. Captain Meg Lanning (5) and Shafali Verma (7) were dismissed cheaply. Jemimah Rodrigues (30) then tried to steady the innings, but she couldn't stay for long. Half of Delhi's team was back in the pavilion within 66 runs.

However, Marizanne Kapp played a whirlwind innings of 40 runs off 26 balls, keeping Delhi's hopes alive, but Nat Sciver-Brunt took two consecutive wickets in the 18th over, sealing Mumbai Indians' victory. Delhi Capitals managed only 141 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs, losing by 8 runs.

Nat Sciver-Brunt Emerges as Mumbai's Star

Nat Sciver-Brunt not only contributed with the bat but also bowled exceptionally, taking 3 wickets and breaking Delhi's backbone. For this all-round performance, she received the "Player of the Match" award. In the three WPL seasons played so far, Mumbai Indians have been champions twice (2023, 2025) and RCB once (2024). Under Harmanpreet Kaur's captaincy, Mumbai once again proved they are one of the top teams.
