India's promising shooter, Sifat Kaur Samra, has won a gold medal at the ISSF Shooting World Cup 2025 with a stellar performance. This is Sifat's first individual gold medal, and it is also India's first gold at the tournament held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A Remarkable Comeback After Initial Struggle
The 23-year-old Sifat Kaur, from Faridkot, Punjab, initially faced some challenges. After 15 shots in the kneeling position, she trailed Germany's Anita Mangold by 7.2 points. However, Sifat made a spectacular comeback in the prone and standing positions, ultimately securing the top spot with 458.6 points.
Her closest competitor, Anita Mangold, scored 455.3 points and won the silver medal. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan's Arina Altukhova finished third with 445.9 points after the 44th shot.
Number One in Qualifying as Well
Sifat also delivered an outstanding performance in the qualifying round, securing first place with 590 points and advancing to the finals. In doing so, she surpassed several renowned shooters, including Switzerland's Olympic champion Chiara Leone, former Olympic champion Nina Christen, America's Mary Tucker, and Kazakhstan's Alexandria Le.
India Wins a Total of Three Medals
India did not win any medals on the first day of this tournament. However, India has now secured one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.

Esha Singh scored 35 points in the final but finished behind China's Sun Yuji, who won the gold medal with 38 points after a b performance in the last 5 shots. China's Feng Sikjuan won the bronze medal.
