Sonu stood outside a halwai's (sweet shop) with only one rupee, insufficient to buy anything. The colorful sweets and the aroma of hot jalebis tempted him. Chandun, the halwai, dismissed him, saying one rupee wouldn't buy anything. Sonu left, dejected, contemplating a hungry night.
A Sudden Act of Kindness
But then, a stroke of luck. Chandun's servant, carrying samosas, dropped two. Chandun, angrily, picked them up and gave them to Sonu. Sonu happily ate them, satisfying his hunger.
Toil and Struggle
Sonu had no money, but worked tirelessly to care for his ailing mother. He earned 70 rupees daily. His mother, Usha, was sick, while his father, Mohan Singh, was engrossed in gambling. Sonu, through his hard work, bought medicine for his mother's treatment, but his father took the money, threatening to demand more the next day.
Sacrifice for Mother
Sonu remained dedicated to his mother's care. One day, he told her, "Mother, I got two samosas today and ate them. I'm not hungry." Usha gave him ten rupees, saying, "Go, eat something." Sonu suppressed his hunger to help his mother. Exhausted, he slept beside her.
Father's Death and Sonu's Decision
The next day, Sonu learned of his father's accidental death. The news was shocking, leaving him unsure whether to grieve or feel relieved. He now had the responsibility of his mother's treatment and the family's well-being.
A New Beginning
Usha wept, but realized her son's life would be free from further hardship. Sonu said, "Mother, we can live peacefully now. No one will take our money anymore. Father only brought us the pain of financial struggle. That pain is over. Now we will have our money, and live life on our own terms."
