Security agencies in Manipur have arrested 10 accused persons during a joint operation conducted by the state police, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The arrests were made in connection with insurgent activities and multiple criminal cases across the state.
According to officials, the operation was carried out simultaneously in several districts, including Churachandpur, Imphal, and Ukhrul. The arrested individuals are alleged to be linked to several high-profile cases and insurgent activities under investigation.
Police said the arrested persons are connected to several sensitive cases being investigated by the NIA. These include the robbery at Punjab National Bank in Ukhrul, the looting of weapons from the 5th India Reserve Battalion (IRB), the killing of a woman in Jiribam, the abduction and killing of four members of the Kuki community, attacks on CRPF personnel in the Narayansena area, and the attack on the Chief Minister’s convoy.
Officials said the arrests could provide new leads in the investigations and help uncover additional information related to these cases.
In a separate operation on June 19, security forces detained a juvenile from the Songpi village area of Churachandpur district. Officials alleged that the juvenile was an active member of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA).
Police said the recruitment of juveniles into insurgent organisations remains a matter of concern for security agencies. Authorities are investigating how the juvenile became associated with the organisation and identifying individuals linked to the recruitment process.
In another operation, security forces arrested a person in Imphal West district on allegations of involvement in extortion activities. Officials said the arrested individual was allegedly associated with KCP-PWG and was functioning as a self-styled captain within the organisation.
Police stated that extortion by insurgent groups has remained one of the region’s security challenges, with complaints of alleged monetary demands from traders, government employees, and local residents reported periodically.
Security forces also arrested two other suspects during a special operation in the ISBT complex area of Imphal. According to police, one of the arrested persons was allegedly linked to the Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) and its armed wing, the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
Officials said a juvenile was found with the arrested individuals and was allegedly being prepared for recruitment into the organisation. The juvenile was taken into protective custody by security personnel.
In another operation, security agencies arrested a person described as a key member of an insurgent organisation’s intelligence network.
Police said the accused was functioning as a self-styled lieutenant colonel and head of the intelligence department within the organisation. He was arrested from the Kongba Bazar area of Imphal East district.
Officials believe the arrest could provide information about the organisation’s activities, financial network, and communication channels.
Security forces recovered cash, a vehicle, and other materials from the arrested individuals. Police said one vehicle was seized, while documents and other items were taken into custody for investigation.
Authorities said the recovered materials are being examined to determine their alleged use and relevance to ongoing investigations.
In a separate operation conducted on June 19, police arrested an active member of KCP-PWG from Imphal West district.
Police alleged that the individual had been involved in various organisational activities and had been under surveillance by security agencies for an extended period. Investigators are questioning the accused regarding the organisation’s activities, contacts, and financial sources.
Security forces have been conducting extensive operations across Manipur in recent months amid challenges related to ethnic tensions, insurgent activities, and arms trafficking.
Authorities continue to focus on strengthening security arrangements through coordinated operations across the state.
