AIMIM Seeks Inclusion in Bihar's Mahagathbandhan for 2025 Elections

AIMIM has sent a letter to RJD chief Lalu Yadav, appealing for inclusion in the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. The party has cited the need to prevent the fragmentation of secular votes.

Bihar Politics: As the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections approach, political activity in the state is intensifying. A direct contest is anticipated between the BJP-led NDA and the opposition Mahagathbandhan. In the midst of this, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has created a stir. AIMIM has written a letter to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, making a significant proposal. According to the proposal, the party has expressed its desire to join the Mahagathbandhan.

AIMIM's Letter: Appeal for Unity and Secularism

AIMIM's Bihar president, Akhtarul Iman, wrote a letter to Lalu Yadav stating that his party wants to prevent the division of secular votes. He believes that it is necessary for all secular parties to unite to stop communal forces in the 2025 assembly elections. He wrote that AIMIM's aim from the beginning has been to prevent the fragmentation of secular votes during elections.

Previous Attempts to Join the Alliance

In the letter, AIMIM also stated that it had expressed its desire to join the Mahagathbandhan in the 2015 assembly elections and subsequent Lok Sabha elections. However, those attempts were unsuccessful. Now, once again, the party has openly reiterated that it wants to be a part of the Mahagathbandhan before the 2025 elections.

Claim of Discussions with Senior Leaders

Akhtarul Iman wrote in the letter that he has also held discussions with several senior leaders of the RJD, Congress, and Left parties on this matter. These discussions were conducted both verbally and over the telephone. AIMIM believes that if this alliance is formed, it will not only be a political partnership, but also a strategic and ideology-based unity, aimed at defeating communal forces.

AIMIM's Role and Influence

AIMIM's political influence in Bihar is certainly limited, but the party's base has strengthened in some areas. Especially in the Seemanchal region, AIMIM had marked its presence in the previous elections. The party also won some assembly seats. Therefore, this proposal of AIMIM may not be just symbolic but strategically important for the Mahagathbandhan.
