Residents and women in Mukund Nagar under the Adarsh Nagar police station area in Ajmer staged a road blockade on Tuesday in protest against the opening of a new liquor outlet in the locality. Protesters demanded the closure of the outlet and raised slogans against the administration, disrupting traffic in the area for some time.
According to local residents, a liquor outlet was already operating in the area, but another outlet was opened overnight despite objections from residents. Protesters alleged that the decision lacked transparency and that local concerns were ignored.
Residents claimed that an increase in the number of liquor outlets could affect the social environment of the locality and lead to a rise in crime-related incidents.
Local resident Shweta Jain said the opening of the new liquor outlet would directly affect the safety of women and children. She said a liquor outlet was already functioning in the area and opening another one was socially inappropriate.
Several women expressed concern that movement outside during evening and night hours could become difficult and that routine activities would be affected. Some protesters also said normal activities in parks and on roads could face disruption.

During the protest, women and men jointly staged a sit-in on the main road and completely blocked traffic movement. Protesters raised slogans against the administration and demanded the immediate closure of the liquor outlet.
Police personnel from Adarsh Nagar police station reached the spot and attempted to persuade the protesters. After discussions with the demonstrators, the blockade was gradually removed and traffic movement resumed.
The protest also drew political reactions. Local BJP leader Devendra Singh Shekhawat alleged that the Excise Department had allotted the liquor outlet on disputed land.
He claimed that the land where the outlet was opened was already subject to a legal dispute and a stay order. Despite this, the allotment of the liquor outlet raised serious questions about the functioning of the administration, he said.
Shekhawat demanded an impartial inquiry into the matter and cancellation of the allotment if any irregularities were found.
Although police restored normalcy at the site, local residents said their protest would continue until the liquor outlet was shut down. No detailed official statement has yet been issued by the administration, but sources indicated that the matter is under investigation.
Tension continued in Mukund Nagar and nearby areas after the incident, though the situation was reported to be under control. Police increased monitoring in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
