Samajwadi Party workers said the artwork was intended solely as a symbolic representation of Akhilesh Yadav's leadership and his commitment to the Constitution. According to them, there was no intention to hurt religious sentiments, and the objective was to convey the message of social justice and constitutional values.
Political opponents also raised questions over the presentation. They said the use of religious symbols in political programmes could become a matter of controversy. Reactions to the issue varied among different political parties.
