The assault on Maulana Sajid Rashidi by Samajwadi Party (SP) workers during a TV debate in Noida is escalating. Reacting to the incident for the first time, SP National President Akhilesh Yadav stated that he does not support any form of violence. Speaking to reporters in the Parliament House complex, he said that he doesn't want anyone to support or be a part of violence.
This statement comes as a video is rapidly going viral on social media, showing SP workers manhandling Maulana Sajid Rashidi. The controversy erupted when the Maulana allegedly made objectionable comments about Mainpuri MP Dimple Yadav during the TV program.
Debate Started During the Program
Regarding the entire incident, Mohit Nagar, the Gautam Buddh Nagar District President of the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, himself released a video. He explained that he and his colleagues had arrived to participate in the TV program, where they met Maulana Sajid Rashidi. A debate ensued regarding the comments made about Dimple Yadav, which gradually escalated into a physical altercation.
Mohit alleged that the Maulana is acting like an agent of a particular political party and that legal action would be taken against him if he did not apologize.
Meanwhile, Maulana Rashidi has also taken the matter seriously and filed a complaint with the police at Sector-126 police station in Noida. Station In-charge Bhupendra Balian stated that an investigation into the incident is underway and information is being gathered from all parties involved.
BJP's Poster War in Lucknow
In the meantime, the BJP in Lucknow has launched a poster war targeting Akhilesh Yadav. The posters, put up by MLC Subhash Yaduvansh, read – "How will those who remain silent on the insult of their wives protect the sisters and daughters of the state?"
The poster also features pictures of Akhilesh Yadav and Maulana Sajid Rashidi, further intensifying the matter. The BJP says that Akhilesh Yadav should clearly state the party's position on this issue.
The entire episode has stirred up political circles and intensified political rhetoric.
