Alia Bhatt's Absence From Netflix's 'Dining With The Kapoors' Explained by Producer Armaan Jain

On the occasion of Raj Kapoor's 100th birth anniversary, a documentary series named 'Dining With The Kapoors' is set to release on Netflix, featuring several members of the Kapoor family. The trailer showed the entire Kapoor clan, including Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, and Karisma Kapoor, but Alia Bhatt is not included in it.

Dining With The Kapoors On OTT: Today, November 21, 2025, the documentary series “Dining With The Kapoors”, launching on Netflix, has captured the attention of film and family enthusiasts. In this show, multiple generations of the Kapoor family will be seen sitting together at one table, sharing memories, cinematic legacy, and special family moments on the occasion of Raj Kapoor's 100th birth anniversary.

Members like Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Rima Jain, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, and Navya Naveli Nanda appeared in the trailer. However, one name is missing from this entire family special — Ranbir Kapoor's wife and Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt.

Fans Curious About Alia's Absence

Alia Bhatt's absence sparked considerable curiosity among fans on social media. Despite Ranbir and other Kapoor family members being in the trailer, Alia was not seen, raising questions about whether there were any family differences or some other reason. This was clarified by Raj Kapoor's grandson and the project's producer, Armaan Jain.

Armaan stated in an interview that Alia Bhatt was already busy with her other film projects, which is why she could not be part of this documentary. Armaan said:

'I might sound filmy, but like Raj Kapoor used to say, ‘Work is worship.’ Alia had prior commitments and work came first.'

This means Alia's absence from the show was not due to any family disagreement, but because of her work commitments.

Alia's Busy Schedule

Indeed, Alia Bhatt is currently busy shooting for her upcoming films ‘Alpha’ and ‘Love & War’. The spy thriller 'Alpha' is scheduled for release next April, while the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed 'Love & War' still has some time before its release. Due to this busy schedule, she could not be a part of the documentary's shooting.

The Kapoor family has long been known for its cinematic and family values. “Dining With The Kapoors” demonstrates how the family honors its past and legacy. According to Armaan Jain, every member of the family prioritizes their work, and it is common for a member to sometimes miss family events.

Although Alia Bhatt is not in the documentary, she has supported the show. She shared the trailer and praised Armaan Jain on social media, writing that the project is going to be a lot of fun. This clearly indicates that her absence was due to professional responsibilities and not personal differences.
