Following the fire incident in Lucknow, the campaign to inspect safety standards across Uttar Pradesh has intensified. As part of this effort, the Aligarh administration has constituted a Joint Action Committee (JAC) to ensure better coordination among departments and facilitate effective enforcement. The committee has been tasked with conducting joint inspections of coaching centres, schools, hospitals, commercial establishments and multi-storey buildings. The administration has stated that institutions found with serious deficiencies during inspections may be sealed, and legal action could be initiated against those responsible.
According to the district administration, inspections were previously carried out separately by different departments, which often resulted in gaps in information-sharing and enforcement. Under the new arrangement, the administration, fire department, municipal corporation, development authority, electricity department and other related agencies will conduct inspections jointly. This will enable a comprehensive assessment of safety measures in buildings and institutions.
The committee has been specifically assigned to inspect locations that receive a large number of visitors every day. These include coaching centres, educational institutions, hospitals, malls, hotels, banquet halls and commercial complexes. During inspections, officials will review fire NOCs, emergency exits, firefighting equipment, electrical safety measures, building plan approvals and other prescribed safety standards.
Officials said serious lapses related to fire safety have been identified in several institutions. Some premises lack emergency exits, while in many buildings firefighting equipment is either non-functional or does not meet prescribed standards. Authorities said direct action will be taken in such cases and no leniency will be shown.
Following the formation of the Joint Action Committee, the inspection drive will be intensified further. Inspection teams have been directed not to limit themselves to procedural checks but to assess the actual condition of safety arrangements on-site. Institutions found violating regulations may face notices as well as sealing action.
The administration has urged building operators and institution managers to ensure compliance with safety standards and keep all required documents updated. Officials said the safety of people remains the highest priority and negligence of any kind will not be tolerated.
In recent days, fire incidents in different parts of the country have raised concerns about safety arrangements. In this context, the Joint Action Committee formed in Aligarh is being viewed as an important step. The administration expects that joint inspections and prompt enforcement will help prevent potential accidents and improve safety standards at public places.
The committee has already begun its work, and phased inspections of institutions across the city will be conducted in the coming days. The administration has made it clear that strict action will be taken against those found violating regulations and that no one will be considered above the law.
