Gujarat Congress Reorganizes Leadership: Amit Chavda Appointed State President

In a move to reorganize the Gujarat Congress, the party has appointed Amit Chavda as the new state president and Dr. Tushar Chaudhary as the leader of the legislative party. This decision was made following the party's defeat in the assembly by-elections, after which the existing president, Shaktisinh Gohil, resigned from his post. On Thursday, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal officially announced these changes.

Amit Chavda Reassigned Command

Amit Chavda has served as the Gujarat Congress president before. He held this responsibility from 2018 to 2021 and has been working as the leader of the Congress legislative party since January 2023. Now, once again assuming the position of state president, he will attempt to strengthen the organization. Meanwhile, Dr. Tushar Chaudhary, a senior Congress leader and former Union Minister, has been appointed as the leader of the legislative party.

Gohil Bids Farewell to Responsibility

Shaktisinh Gohil resigned from the post of president after the party's defeat in the by-elections. Gohil was made the Gujarat Congress president in June 2023 so that he could strengthen the organization in preparation for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. However, the party did not achieve success in the recent by-elections, after which a change in leadership was deemed necessary.

Preparation for Changes at the DCC Level Too

The Congress has also taken steps towards organizational reform at the district level. Party President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Challa Vamshi Chand Reddy as the in-charge of the appointment process for District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents. He will also gather feedback regarding the performance and organizational effectiveness of the DCC presidents. The party's objective is to strengthen the organization again at the grassroots level.

Through these changes, the Congress is working on a strategy to strengthen its hold in Gujarat, so that it can perform better in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
