Amid the results of the Bihar Legislative Council elections, Mokama MLA Anant Singh has reacted to the outcome of the Patna Graduates constituency, saying, “We lost, the party is the boss.” His remarks came after he backed Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh against his own party’s official candidate, Neeraj Kumar of Janata Dal (United).

Singh’s statement has drawn attention to the election result and the party’s decision following the contest. Elections to graduates’ constituencies in the Legislative Council are closely watched by political parties as they reflect support among graduate voters.

Anant Singh had openly campaigned in support of Anuj Singh and expressed confidence in his victory. During the campaign, he said he expected the result to match his expectations and remained confident in his candidate’s prospects after polling.

Following the result, Singh acknowledged the defeat, saying, “We lost, the party is the boss.” His remarks indicated acceptance of the election outcome and referred to the party’s authority. However, he did not provide further details about his future political decisions or his relationship with the party.

The contest attracted particular attention because Anant Singh supported Anuj Singh of the Jan Suraaj Party instead of Neeraj Kumar, the official JD(U) candidate. Singh’s decision to campaign for another candidate despite JD(U)’s nomination of Neeraj Kumar became a source of controversy within the party.

Following the developments, JD(U) expelled Anant Singh from the party for six years. The party also took action against his wife, Neelam Devi.

The episode brought questions surrounding party discipline and political relationships into the spotlight, making the Patna Graduates constituency contest more than a direct electoral battle between candidates.

During the counting process, attention remained focused on the contest among JD(U)’s Neeraj Kumar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Dilip Patel and Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh.

In the initial rounds, Neeraj Kumar and Dilip Patel exchanged the lead. Subsequent trends showed RJD candidate Dilip Patel moving ahead, while Anuj Singh was also trailing in the contest.

The counting of ballot papers and the process involving preferential votes delayed the announcement of the result.

Anant Singh’s statement has attracted attention because he had expressed confidence in Anuj Singh’s victory before the election. At the time, he had emphasised the importance of voters’ support and said that the people were the ultimate decision-makers.

After the defeat, he referred to the party as the authority, saying, “We lost, the party is the boss.” However, his remarks do not provide sufficient grounds to draw conclusions about his future relationship with the party or his subsequent political strategy.

Anant Singh remained a prominent figure in the Patna Graduates MLC election because of his decision to support Anuj Singh while JD(U) fielded Neeraj Kumar as its official candidate. The party’s disciplinary action and the counting trends added to the political attention surrounding the contest. Singh’s latest remarks constitute his response to the election outcome.
