India's national record holder in women's javelin throw, Annu Rani, has made a remarkable comeback. She secured first place at the 8th International Wiesław Mania Memorial Meet held in Szczytno, Poland.
Sports News: Indian star female javelin throw athlete Annu Rani has once again raised India's flag on the international stage. She won the gold medal at the 8th International Wiesław Mania Memorial Meet with a splendid throw of 62.59 meters. The competition was part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze Level Meet and was held in Szczytno, Poland.
Annu's 60+ Meter Throw After a Year
This performance by Annu Rani is special in many ways. It marks the first time in over a year that she has recorded a throw exceeding 60 meters. This effort is not only her season's best performance but also indicates a return to her confidence and fitness. In this competition, Annu made a total of six throws, with her second attempt being the best.
She secured the top spot in the competition with a throw of 62.59 meters. In addition, her first attempt was 60.95 meters, and her final attempt was 60.07 meters. This performance shows that she is consistently returning to good form.
Previous Performance and Recent Struggles
This is the first time since May 2024 that Annu has crossed the 60-meter mark. At that time, she achieved a sixth-place finish with a throw of 60.68 meters in Offenburg, Germany. Since then, she had been experiencing a decline in her performance and was unable to reach 60 meters. In the Paris Olympics 2024 qualification round, Annu Rani could only manage a throw of 55.81 meters and failed to qualify for the final. This also affected her confidence, but her performance in Poland brings new hope after this decline.
Her previous best performance this year was recorded in Mumbai in March 2025, where she threw 58.82 meters. Although this performance did not take her to the direct qualification limit (64 meters) for the World Athletics Championships 2025 to be held in Tokyo in September, Annu Rani's recent performance of 62.59 meters, even though she has not yet crossed the prescribed qualification limit of 64 meters, could make her a b contender for selection in the championship via the world ranking quota.
