Sports News: Australia once again proved its supremacy over the Ashes Trophy, winning the fifth and final Test match played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) by 5 wickets, securing the series 4-1. The Australian team put consistent pressure on England throughout the series, making excellent use of home conditions. In the decisive Test, centuries from Travis Head and captain Steve Smith completely shifted the momentum in Australia's favor.
Head and Smith’s Partnership Turned the Tide
In the fifth Ashes Test, England won the toss and decided to bat first. This decision initially proved correct, as former England captain Joe Root showcased a classic Test batting display, scoring a brilliant 160 runs. Harry Brook also made a significant contribution with 84 runs. With innings from Jamie Smith (46) and Will Jacks (27) in the lower order, England scored 384 runs in their first innings.
In response to England’s respectable score, Australia’s batting was both aggressive and controlled. Travis Head scored a rapid 163 runs, pushing the English bowlers onto the back foot. On the other hand, captain Steve Smith demonstrated his experience, playing a restrained innings of 138 runs. Thanks to these two centuries, Australia piled on 567 runs in their first innings and gained a massive lead of 183 runs, which proved to be the turning point of the match.

Jacob Bethel’s Valiant Innings, But Insufficient
England’s team, batting under heavy pressure in the second innings, got off to a shaky start, but young batsman Jacob Bethel showed great fighting spirit. He played a memorable innings of 154 runs, keeping England’s hopes alive. This innings indicated a bright future for Bethel in Test cricket. However, he didn’t receive the expected support from other batsmen, and the entire England team was bundled out for 342 runs. Thus, Australia was given a target of 160 runs to win.
On the fifth day, Australia started the chase for the target with a measured approach. Although England’s bowlers took a few wickets in the middle, creating some excitement in the match, Australia lost 5 wickets, but due to the small target, the host team registered a win without any trouble. With this victory, Australia not only won the match but also the entire Ashes series.
