Ayush Mahatre's Century Propels India U19 in Test Match Against England

After Vaibhav Suryavanshi's early dismissal, Indian Under-19 team's captain Ayush Mahatre took command and played a century innings, heavily punishing the English bowlers.

IND U19 vs ENG U19: In the second Youth Test match being played between India and England Under-19 teams, Indian captain Ayush Mahatre delivered a tremendous performance, not only scoring a century but also achieving several records. The manner in which he batted on English soil has shown Indian cricket fans a glimpse of a future superstar.

In this match being played in Manchester, England declared their second innings on the fourth day at a score of 324/5. This set India a target of 355 runs to win. This target was considered extremely challenging in the context of a Youth Test, but Indian captain Ayush Mahatre's explosive innings brought the match to an exciting turn.

Chasing the target, the India Under-19 team had a very poor start. Opening batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed for a golden duck on the very first ball. After this setback, the team was under pressure, but captain Mahatre took charge. Ayush Mahatre, along with Vihan Malhotra, who had scored a century in the first innings, tried to steady the innings.

 

Although Vihan was dismissed after scoring 27 runs, India's score had crossed 100 by then. After this, Mahatre formed a partnership of 117 runs for the third wicket with Abhigyan, which fueled India's hopes of victory.

Century completed in 64 balls

Ayush Mahatre's batting style was completely aggressive. He completed his century in just 64 balls, including 12 fours and 4 towering sixes. This century of his will be counted among the fastest centuries by any Indian U19 batsman on English soil. Ayush Mahatre's innings consisted of 126 runs off 80 balls, in which he hit 13 fours and 6 sixes. This innings brought India very close to the target, but unfortunately, he was dismissed before he could lead the team to victory.

With this innings, Ayush Mahatre surpassed Tanmay Srivastava to become the Indian captain with the most runs in U19 Tests. In 2006, Tanmay had scored 199 runs against England, while Mahatre scored a total of 206 runs in both innings of this Test.

Previously, this record was held by Sourav Tiwary, who had hit 8 sixes in 7 innings in 2007-08. Mahatre broke this record by hitting 9 sixes in just 4 innings.
