Bangladeshi National Arrested in North Tripura in Joint Police and BSF Operation

A Bangladeshi national identified as Moin Uddin Mia was arrested in North Tripura during a joint operation by police and the BSF. InvestigatoImmigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.

A Bangladeshi national has been arrested in North Tripura on suspicion of entering India without valid authorisation. Police, the Border Security Force (BSF) and its Special Branch conducted a joint operation in the Ichhaipar area under Kadamtala police station, and an investigation is underway to establish how he crossed the border and whether anyone assisted him.

On Thursday, October 22, 2026, security personnel launched a joint operation in the Kadamtala area of North Tripura after receiving information that a person who had arrived from Bangladesh was staying in the border region.

Following the intelligence input, personnel from Kadamtala police station and the BSF's 97th Battalion reached the area near the Yakubnagar Border Outpost. The team subsequently conducted a raid in Ichhaipar, under Paschim Pratap Rai Gram Panchayat.

According to local reports, the suspect was staying at the house of a man named Tayeb Ali in Ward No. 1. Police detained him from the residence and took him to Kadamtala police station for further action after questioning. He was handed over to the police on Thursday night.

The arrested man has been identified as Moin Uddin Mia, also known as Dalim Mia. He is reportedly around 40 years old.

According to BSF sources, he is a resident of the Juri police station area in Bangladesh's Moulvibazar district. His father's name is Khalid Mia.

Police are examining documents related to his entry into India and investigating the reason for his stay in the country. Investigators are also trying to determine the route he allegedly used to cross the international border.

According to local media reports, Moin Uddin allegedly told investigators during preliminary questioning that he entered India on Wednesday afternoon.

He reportedly claimed to have paid a middleman around Rs 10,000 to cross the border. However, this information is based on preliminary questioning and remains under investigation.

Investigating agencies are attempting to identify the person who allegedly accepted the money and helped him cross the border. Police are also examining how the accused reached the border area and whether anyone else was involved.

Information has also emerged about the accused's family connections in Tripura. According to local reports, Moin Uddin married Rukia Akhtar Happy, the daughter of Kadamtala resident Tayeb Ali, around 13 years ago.

The couple reportedly have a son and a daughter. His wife and children had been staying for some time at the home of his wife's maternal family in Kadamtala.

Police are investigating who knew about Moin Uddin's entry into India and his stay in the area. However, the identification of a relative or a family connection does not establish involvement in the alleged illegal entry. No final conclusion has been reached in this regard.

Kadamtala police station officer-in-charge Gurupad Debnath said a case had been registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.

According to local reports, the case was registered as Kadamtala Police Station Case No. 62/26.

Reports also indicate that, after the necessary legal formalities, the accused was scheduled to be produced before a court in Dharmanagar on Friday. Police said further action would depend on the findings of the investigation.

Following the arrest, police and the BSF are also investigating individuals who may assist people in crossing the border illegally. Officials are examining the possibility that a middleman helped the accused enter India. However, no involvement of a larger network has been confirmed.

Investigators are also checking whether Moin Uddin had entered India previously and whether he possessed any valid travel documents.

Kadamtala in North Tripura is located close to the Bangladesh border. The BSF and local police are responsible for border security and monitoring the movement of people in the area.

The investigation remains ongoing. Further findings are expected to clarify the route allegedly used to cross the border, the identity of the suspected middleman and the reason for the accused's entry into India.
