If you are planning an important bank-related transaction on Saturday, August 8, 2026, it is important to check whether bank branches are open. Banks across the country remain closed today because August 8 is the second Saturday of the month. Under the Indian banking system, regular branch operations are not conducted on the second and fourth Saturdays. This rule applies to both public and private sector banks.
Under the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) banking holiday rules, all banks in the country remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Bank branches also do not conduct normal operations on Sundays.
As a result, customers will not be able to carry out branch-based services such as cash deposits, several cheque-related transactions, passbook updates and in-person services from bank officials on Saturday, August 8. However, the closure of bank branches does not mean that all banking services will stop.

Customers can continue to use several financial services even when bank branches are closed. Internet banking and mobile banking can be used to transfer money, check account balances and access various other online services. UPI payments and ATM services are also expected to remain available as usual. However, digital services may be temporarily affected because of technical issues or scheduled maintenance at a particular bank.
Customers whose work requires a visit to a bank branch will have to wait until the next working day. After the weekend of August 8 and 9, normal banking operations will resume on Monday, August 10, 2026.
In addition to weekly holidays, August includes national and festival-related bank holidays. Festival holidays are not uniform across all states, as several holidays in the RBI holiday calendar apply to specific regions.
In August 2026, the major bank holidays include Saturday, August 8, for the second Saturday; Sunday, August 9, as a weekly holiday; Saturday, August 15, for Independence Day; Sunday, August 16, as a weekly holiday; Saturday, August 22, for the fourth Saturday; Sunday, August 23, as a weekly holiday; Friday, August 28, as a Raksha Bandhan-related holiday in applicable regions; and Sunday, August 30, as a weekly holiday.
Festival-related bank holidays may vary by state and region. Customers should therefore check the local holiday list of their respective bank before visiting a branch in a particular city or state.
