Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East and volatility in equity markets, fixed deposits have emerged as a secure investment option for investors. Major banks and small finance banks are offering returns ranging from 6% to 7.9% on five-year tenures.
In the current environment of geopolitical uncertainty and market fluctuations, fixed deposits provide capital protection along with assured interest income. Experts advise maintaining a balance between low-risk and high-risk assets within an investment portfolio.
Interest rates on five-year fixed deposits vary across major banks. ICICI Bank is offering 6.50% interest, followed by Axis Bank at 6.45%, HDFC Bank at 6.40%, Punjab National Bank at 6.10%, and State Bank of India at 6.05%. Union Bank of India is offering 6.00% on similar tenures.
An investment in ICICI Bank’s five-year fixed deposit provides stable returns. For instance, if an investor undertakes two consecutive five-year deposits, the cumulative return can reach approximately 13%.
Small finance banks are offering higher interest rates within the fixed deposit segment. Suryoday Small Finance Bank is currently offering 7.90% on a five-year deposit. Other rates include AU Small Finance Bank at 6.75%, Equitas at 7.00%, ESAF at 5.75%, Jana at 7.77%, Shivalik at 6.25%, Slice at 7.00%, Ujjivan at 7.20%, and Utkarsh at 7.00%.
At Suryoday Small Finance Bank, two consecutive five-year fixed deposits can yield cumulative returns of approximately 15.8%, making it an option for long-term investors seeking higher returns within the fixed deposit category.
Fixed deposits offer capital safety and guaranteed interest income, insulating investments from equity market volatility. Over a five-year tenure, they provide predictable and stable returns that support financial planning.
Investors are advised to consider interest rates and tenure while selecting fixed deposit options. Large banks such as SBI, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank are considered secure, while small finance banks offer higher return potential. Selection may be aligned with individual financial planning and risk capacity.
Before opening a fixed deposit, investors should review bank-specific terms, premature withdrawal rules, and applicable taxation. Consultation with a financial advisor may assist in structuring fixed deposit investments for long-term outcomes.
