Several important decisions were approved in the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. A total of 36 agendas were approved, with a significant increase in the honorarium of school cooks, physical education teachers, and night watchmen being the most important. These decisions will be considered effective from August 1, 2025.
Relief for Cooks and Watchmen
The state government has increased the honorarium of cooks working in schools from ₹1,650 to ₹3,300 per month. At the same time, physical education teachers, who have been demanding a salary increase for a long time, will now receive ₹16,000 per month instead of ₹8,000. Their annual increment has also been increased from ₹200 to ₹400.
Similarly, the honorarium of night watchmen has now been increased from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 per month. Along with this, their annual increment will now be ₹400. These decisions are being considered a major public-oriented step before the upcoming elections.
Chief Minister announced on August 1
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while sharing information about these decisions on X (formerly Twitter) on August 1, wrote that the contribution of these personnel has been important in improving the education system, and keeping this in mind, their honorarium has been increased respectfully. Now these announcements have received formal cabinet approval.
Gift of new schemes to several departments
In the meeting, approval was also given for the creation of 18 new posts in Saharsa and Nalanda (Hilsa Nyay Mandal) under the Prohibition and Excise Department, which will be on contract basis.
In addition, Bihar Transport Regional Stenographer Cadre (Recruitment and Promotion) Rules 2025 and Bihar Urban Planning Scheme Rules 2026 have also been approved.
To promote digital education, more than ₹94 crore has been approved under the Chief Minister's Digital Library Scheme. At the same time, approval has been given for land acquisition at a cost of more than ₹284 crore for the establishment of industry in Kutumba Anchal of Aurangabad district.
Along with this, the cabinet has also given the green signal to the creation of 712 new posts in the Agriculture Department.
