The Congress-RJD alliance suffered a crushing defeat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Party leaders have urged the high command to sever ties with the RJD. The alliance has affected the Congress's reputation and vote bank.
Patna: Discussions about a change in the political landscape of Bihar have intensified. The grand alliance of RJD-Congress and several other parties faced a resounding defeat in the 2025 Assembly elections. Following this defeat, questions have been raised about the strength of the alliance. Several leaders of the Bihar Congress have now spoken about breaking the alliance with the RJD.
Senior Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan revealed that almost all leaders of the Bihar Congress have demanded from the high command that ties with the RJD be broken. He stated that the relationship with the RJD is no longer beneficial for the Congress. He said, "What is the point of carrying a relationship that yields no benefit?"
Damage to Congress's Reputation Due to the Alliance
Shakeel Ahmed Khan clarified that maintaining an alliance with the RJD has had an adverse effect on the Congress's reputation. He said that the trust of Non-Yadav, OBC, and EBC castes has moved away due to the alliance. He also mentioned that nominating Mukesh Sahni as the Deputy CM candidate also proved detrimental to the party.

Khan said, "Mukesh Sahni has never won an election, his performance has been zero. Because of this, even the people who were going to vote stayed away."
Defeat in the Assembly Elections
A total of 243 seats went to the polls in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. The NDA alliance led by the BJP performed brilliantly in this election. The BJP won 89 seats, JD(U) won 85, LJP (RV) won 19, HAM(S) won 5, and the National Lok Morcha won 4 seats. Overall, the NDA achieved success in 202 seats.
On the other hand, this election was very challenging for the opposition's Mahagathbandhan. The RJD won 25 seats and the Congress won only 6 seats. The Congress contested around 60 seats, but did not get the expected results. This electoral defeat has increased discontent and resentment among Congress leaders.
Allegations by Shakeel Ahmed Khan
Shakeel Ahmed Khan also highlighted the weaknesses of the alliance. He said that in the RJD-Congress alliance, the Congress's views were ignored in the decision-making process. This resulted in damage to the party's core vote bank and dissatisfaction among non-Yadav voters in the alliance. He said that some decisions of the alliance, such as the selection of the Deputy CM candidate, had an adverse impact on the election results.
