The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in Bihar conducted raids at the premises of an executive engineer in Patna and Jamui, recovering around Rs 40 lakh in cash during the operation.
Officials said the amount of cash seized was so large that a currency counting machine had to be brought in for counting. During the searches, the team also recovered a large quantity of jewellery and other valuables. Documents and property-related records seized during the operation are being examined.
The EOU team carried out search operations for several hours. Officials scrutinised documents, bank details and investment-related records found at the residence and other premises linked to the engineer.
According to sources, an investigation into alleged disproportionate assets and financial irregularities involving the engineer had been underway. The raids were conducted based on preliminary findings gathered during the inquiry.
News of the raids in Patna drew attention in the area, with a large number of local residents gathering outside the premises.
Reactions to the action also appeared on social media, with several users calling for strict action in corruption-related cases.
In recent years, Bihar has witnessed an increase in raids linked to corruption and disproportionate assets cases.
Experts said the actual financial position in such cases becomes clear only after a detailed examination of seized cash, assets and banking transactions.
EOU officials indicated that the investigation would continue and that additional action could follow based on the documents recovered during the searches.
The team is currently engaged in assessing the seized materials and documents.
