Significant changes are coming to healthcare services and medical education in Bihar. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has announced that more than eight new medical colleges will be established in Bihar over the next three years.
Patna: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Bihar is continuously taking concrete steps to provide better and more accessible healthcare services to every citizen. Addressing a function, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said that the government's goal is to establish a medical college and hospital in every district, so that people do not have to travel to large cities or other states for treatment.
He stated that with this objective in mind, the Mahabodhi Medical College & Hospital in Gaya has been inaugurated, which will provide significant relief to millions of people not only in Gaya district but also in surrounding districts.
Target of a Medical College in Every District
Addressing a public event, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said that the long-term goal of the Bihar government is to establish a medical college and associated hospital in every district. He clarified that the NDA government is prioritizing strengthening the health infrastructure. The government wants people living in rural and remote areas to have access to specialist doctors and modern treatment facilities in their own districts.
Samrat Choudhary, citing the recently launched Mahabodhi Medical College and Hospital in Gaya, said that this project is proof of the government's commitment and efficiency. This state-of-the-art institution, completed in a limited time, has emerged as a center of relief for millions of people in Gaya district and several surrounding districts.
He informed that Mahabodhi Medical College is a modern hospital with a capacity of 650 beds, where experienced doctors, nurses and paramedical staff have been deployed. 24-hour emergency, investigation and treatment facilities are available here.

Improvement in Health System under the NDA Government
Referring to the past of Bihar's health system, the Deputy Chief Minister said that many medical colleges were established in the state between 1925 and 1989, but no new medical college could be opened for about two decades from 1989 to 2008. The impact of this long gap was that health services weakened and people had to go to Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow and other states for better treatment.
He claimed that the situation is changing rapidly and in the coming years, people of Bihar will not be forced to go outside the state for treatment. Samrat Choudhary said that with the beginning of good governance under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, health and education were made the axis of development. Currently, the number of medical colleges and hospitals in both the government and private sectors is increasing rapidly. He said that the establishment of more than eight new medical colleges in the next three years will make Bihar's health infrastructure ber than ever before.
The Deputy Chief Minister informed that Mahabodhi Medical College has already received recognition for 100 MBBS seats and the enrollment of students for the academic session has also been completed. This will eliminate the need for youth in Bihar to go to other states for medical studies.
