Bihar Voter List Verification Sparks Political Row; Owaisi Warns of 'Backdoor NRC'

Politics Intensifies Over Voter List Verification in Bihar. AIMIM Chief Owaisi Appeals to Muslims to Obtain Passports and Birth Certificates. He Described it as a Backdoor NRC.

Bihar Voter List News: The voter list verification process ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar has stirred political activity. Opposition parties have expressed concern over this campaign being conducted by the Election Commission. Rashtriya Janata Dal's Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha has even taken the matter to the Supreme Court. He alleges that the process is unconstitutional and could lead to the removal of millions of names from the voter list.

Owaisi's Appeal to the Muslim Community

Meanwhile, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has advised people of the Muslim community to be vigilant. He said that people should get their passports and birth certificates made as soon as possible. Addressing a gathering in Godhan, Telangana, he said that if someone's name is removed from the voter list, they will not have the right to question the government. Targeting the central government, Owaisi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be happiest if the names of the Muslim community were removed from the voter list.

Not Just an Election Issue, This is a Matter of Citizenship: Owaisi

Owaisi said that this is not just an election issue, it is directly related to citizenship. Warning people, he said that this voter list verification could also be a 'backdoor NRC'. He believes that this process could become a new way to prove citizenship, which is against the basic structure of the constitution.

Questioning the Authority of the Election Commission

Owaisi also questioned the role of the Election Commission. He said that the Election Commission does not have the right to determine citizenship. This right belongs to the Ministry of Home Affairs. He explained that the final decision on the citizenship of any citizen is made by officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, which includes the SP Border, three officials of the Ministry, and finally the Foreigners Tribunal.

Crisis on 7.1 Million Voters

According to media reports, the names of over 7.1 million voters may be removed from the voter list. According to the Election Commission, approximately seven crore voters are registered in the state, but concrete information about 9.02 percent of these voters has not been found. This situation could cause significant electoral inequality in the upcoming elections.

Voter List Verification Process

In this process underway across the state, each voter has to provide information related to their identity card, address, and date of birth. People whose documents are incomplete or whose information contains errors are likely to have their names removed. The Election Commission says that this step has been taken to ensure transparency and fairness, but the opposition considers it an attack on the right to citizenship.

Importance of Digital Documents

Owaisi said that now is the time for people to keep their documents safe in digital form. Talking about 'Digital India', he said that if you do not have a digital passport, Aadhaar card, and birth certificate, problems may arise in the future. He also said that getting a passport is no longer just a requirement for traveling abroad, but has also become a way to prove one's identity.
