New Delhi: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has taken a b action against e-commerce and quick-commerce companies, conducting search and seizure operations at 22 warehouses in 12 states and union territories. BIS collected samples of 344 products from these warehouses, of which 142 products were found without valid BIS certification. The campaign targeted warehouses of major e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Instakart, and Blinkit. This step has been taken to ensure consumer safety and product quality.
Violation of Quality Control: BIS's Goal
According to BIS, this campaign was conducted to ensure customer safety and quality products. The sale of uncertified products can endanger consumer safety and is contrary to standard products. Furthermore, this step clarifies BIS's strict policy towards product quality in the Indian market.
BIS also made efforts to raise consumer awareness through media and social media. This campaign was promoted through print, social, and electronic media. Along with this, BIS also shared this issue on its social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and appealed to consumers to ensure that the product has a valid ISI mark or certification number from BIS while buying products online.
Major Step for Consumer Protection
With the increasing trend of e-commerce and quick-commerce, questions began to arise regarding the quality of products being sold on these platforms. Customers buy products trusting these platforms, but the sale of uncertified products can adversely affect their safety. After this raid by BIS, a message has been sent that all products sold on these platforms will now be certified under quality standards, which will ensure consumer safety.
During this campaign, the state-union territories where raids were conducted included Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, where search operations were carried out at three warehouses in each state. In addition, BIS officials also raided and seized illegal products in Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Odisha, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
This Action Will Continue in the Future
Minister of State for Consumer Affairs B. L. Verma said in Parliament that BIS has taken this action against uncertified products and such actions will continue in the future as well. He also said that this campaign of BIS will continue for sensitivity towards quality and protection of consumer interests.
This action has made it clear that now all products sold on online platforms will have to be certified under strict standards of quality control, so that consumers can get a guarantee of safety and quality.
