The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms and b winds across 25 states on September 16. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and several other parts of the country may experience adverse weather conditions, with wind speeds in some areas likely to reach 80 to 85 kilometres per hour.
According to the IMD forecast, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, Nagaland, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana may experience rain and b winds on September 16.
Some areas may receive heavy rain accompanied by b winds. The weather activity is expected to affect road traffic, local transport, electricity supply and agricultural activities. Farmers have been advised to monitor local weather updates to protect their crops.
Several weather systems are contributing to the change in weather conditions. Weather activity developing around the north-western Bay of Bengal may bring b winds and rain to Odisha, West Bengal and adjoining areas.
A cyclonic circulation is also reported to be active in the upper atmosphere over Assam and adjoining areas. An upper-air circulation is also influencing coastal areas of northern Odisha and West Bengal. These systems may increase rainfall across several parts of eastern and north-eastern India.
Delhi is likely to receive moderate rain and thunderstorms on September 16. Wind speeds may remain around 20 to 30 kilometres per hour. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may remain around 25 degrees Celsius.
A yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms has been issued for several districts of Uttar Pradesh. Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Agra, Mathura, Bareilly, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Saharanpur and Lucknow are among the areas where weather conditions may remain adverse. Lucknow is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 32 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius.
In Bihar, Patna, Gaya, Buxar, Rohtas, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur, Munger and Khagaria are among the districts where rain and b winds have been forecast. Wind speeds may reach 55 to 60 kilometres per hour in some places.
Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have been advised to take special precautions due to rain and b winds. Several districts of Uttarakhand may receive heavy rain.
In Himachal Pradesh, weather conditions may remain adverse in areas including Chamba, Kinnaur, Mandi, Kangra, Kullu and Shimla. In Jammu and Kashmir, rain and b winds have been forecast in areas including Poonch, Baramulla, Kishtwar, Anantnag, Reasi, Udhampur and Rajouri.
Heavy rain in hilly areas may increase the risk of landslides and road disruptions. People travelling in hill regions have been advised to exercise special caution.
Several districts of Rajasthan, including Tonk, Ajmer, Alwar, Jaisalmer, Jaipur, Barmer, Bharatpur, Kota, Dungarpur, Phalodi, Didwana, Jodhpur and Pali, may experience rain and b winds.
Wind speeds may reach 45 to 50 kilometres per hour. Jaipur is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius.
