The BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting 2026 is set to begin in New Delhi on Thursday under India’s presidency of the grouping, amid continuing geopolitical tensions in West Asia and other global regions.
The two-day high-level meeting will be chaired by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and will bring together foreign ministers, senior diplomats and delegations from BRICS member countries. The discussions are expected to focus on global tensions, regional security, multilateral cooperation, reforms in international institutions and the agenda for the upcoming BRICS Summit.
BRICS is a grouping of major emerging economies comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The organisation’s role in global politics and the international economy has expanded in recent years. The group aims to strengthen the voice of the Global South and promote a multipolar world order.
India is holding the BRICS presidency this year and is hosting the meeting in New Delhi as part of its responsibilities under the chairmanship.
The conference is taking place at a time when geopolitical tensions are continuing to rise in several regions, including West Asia. The Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Middle East, global trade challenges and energy security remain major concerns for large economies worldwide.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, member countries will exchange views on current global developments and discuss measures to strengthen collective cooperation. Discussions are also expected on reforms in international governance structures in response to changing global circumstances.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the meeting, scheduled for May 14 and 15, will include discussions on several key issues, including:
Global and regional security challenges
Economic and trade cooperation
Reforms in multilateral institutions
Protection of the interests of developing countries
Strengthening the role of the Global South
Preparations for the upcoming BRICS Summit
Experts believe member countries may also discuss a shared approach toward global economic balance and a multipolar world order.
Several foreign delegations attending the conference are also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The meeting is being viewed as diplomatically important for India as the country seeks to strengthen its leadership role among Global South nations through the BRICS platform. India recently launched the official logo and website for the BRICS 2026 presidency.
According to officials, the theme of this year’s conference is “Humanity First” and is based on the idea of people-centric development.
This will be the fourth occasion on which India is hosting a major BRICS-related summit-level event. In recent years, India has highlighted the concerns of developing countries through its active role on global platforms.
Experts say India’s role within the BRICS grouping has continued to strengthen. India is being viewed as an important partner in areas including digital development, green energy, economic reforms and global cooperation.
The meeting will also focus on increasing cooperation among member countries in areas such as trade, investment, technology, healthcare and climate change. BRICS countries aim to strengthen alternative global economic frameworks while reducing dependence on Western institutions.
