A cloudburst-triggered flood caused extensive devastation on September 18, 2025, in Kunthri Laga Phali village, Nandanagar area, Chamoli district. In this disaster, Kanta Devi (38) and her 10-year-old twin sons, Vikas and Vishal, tragically lost their lives, buried under the debris.
When rescue teams retrieved the bodies from the rubble, Kanta Devi was found embracing her two children, a poignant testament to a mother's boundless love and protective instinct. In this tragedy, Kanta Devi's husband, Kunwar Singh, who was also at home during the incident, was rescued alive from the rubble 16 hours later. Although severely injured, his survival was the only solace amidst the grief. Kunwar Singh has been admitted to the hospital and is invoking the names of his family deities.
This incident has plunged the entire village and surrounding areas into deep shock. Local administration and relief workers are engaged in relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas and provided an assistance amount of ₹5 lakh to the families of the deceased.
