A recent OpenAI report has revealed that ChatGPT's usage is rapidly increasing, and people are using it not just for writing, but also for learning, seeking information, and making decisions. In 2022, there were 1 million active users, which has now grown to 700 million weekly users.
ChatGPT Trend 2025: OpenAI recently released a report which revealed that ChatGPT's usage is rapidly increasing, and people are adopting it not merely as a writing tool but also for learning, acquiring information, and making decisions. This study is based on an analysis of 1.5 million conversations that took place on the app over the past three years. The report states that in 2022, there were only 1 million active users, whereas now this number has surged to 700 million weekly users, indicating its global impact and popularity.
Most Frequent Types of Conversations
Data revealed that approximately 70% of conversations are not work-related but are based on personal or general discussions. The most discussed topics on ChatGPT have been Practical Guidance (29%), Seeking Information (24%), and Writing (24%).
The report also showed that over the past year, conversations related to writing decreased from 36% to 24%, while information search increased from 14% to 24%. This clearly indicates that people are now using ChatGPT not just for writing, but for gaining knowledge and making decisions.
What Do People Want from ChatGPT?
The report identified three main purposes for ChatGPT's use: Ask (to seek information), Do (to get tasks done, such as writing emails or code), and Express (to articulate oneself). Analysis showed that the number of "Do" type uses is decreasing, while questions aimed at acquiring information have rapidly increased.
Experts state that this shift indicates users are now primarily prioritizing ChatGPT for learning, exploring, and making new decisions. Many users are choosing ChatGPT over Google for Q&A and discovery, which has increased interaction on the platform.
The Role and Thinking Style of Young Users
The study found that users aged 18 to 25 are the most active on ChatGPT, with nearly half of all conversations originating from this age group. However, users in this age group use ChatGPT less for work-related conversations, with only 22.5% of chats found to be work-related. Among users aged 36 to 45, this figure is 31.4%, which is the highest.
The data also raises the question of whether people are now relying on ChatGPT for thinking and decision-making rather than just writing. According to experts, if AI begins to influence people's thoughts and decisions, it could have a profound impact on society and individual thinking in the future.
