Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das has claimed that his WhatsApp account has been blocked amid the party's ongoing protest in Delhi.
Das shared the claim in a post on social media platform X, where he asked WhatsApp to explain why his account had been blocked and under whose instructions the action had been taken. However, it is not yet clear whether the account has been temporarily restricted or permanently blocked.
In his post on X, Das tagged WhatsApp and sought an explanation for the action. He wrote, "My WhatsApp account has been blocked! Can @WhatsApp tell me why this was done and under whose instructions it was done?"
Following Das's claim, the issue drew attention on social media. However, his post did not state whether WhatsApp had provided him with any notice or reason for blocking the account.
As of now, WhatsApp has not issued any official statement on the matter. Consequently, the reason for the reported blocking of Das's account remains unclear. It has also not been confirmed whether the action, if any, is temporary or permanent.
WhatsApp generally takes action against accounts in cases involving spam, fraud, suspicious activity, or violations of its terms of service. Action may also be taken if an account receives a large number of reports or is found to be using unauthorized applications. However, none of these reasons has been confirmed in Das's case.
CJP's protest is focused on issues related to India's education system and NEET. The organisation has raised demands including reforms in the education system, accountability on student-related issues, and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The protest has also drawn responses from political leaders and public figures. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray are among those who have expressed their views on issues concerning students.
