Congress Demands Farewell Ceremony for Jagdeep Dhankhar Following Resignation

Following Jagdeep Dhankhar's Resignation, Congress Demands a Dignified Farewell Ceremony. The government's silence and lack of response have intensified speculation in political circles.

Dhankhar: Following Jagdeep Dhankhar's sudden resignation from the post of Vice President, the Congress party has demanded a "farewell ceremony" in his honor. This demand has arisen at a time when various discussions are taking place across the country regarding Dhankhar's resignation. The opposition is not only attributing it to health reasons but also suspecting political pressure behind it.

Demand Raised at BAC Meeting, Government Remains Silent

On Wednesday evening, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh proposed at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting that Dhankhar should be given a dignified farewell for his contributions. Union Ministers JP Nadda and Kiren Rijiju, who were present at the meeting, did not react to this. The opposition has considered the government's silence an unusual behavior. According to sources, no other opposition leader openly supported Ramesh's demand, which has further complicated the matter.

Congress's Argument

The Congress believes that Jagdeep Dhankhar has fulfilled his constitutional responsibilities by serving as the Vice President for almost three years, and on this basis, he should receive a formal and dignified farewell. Party leaders say that such a farewell should be part of democratic traditions, especially when Dhankhar has left the post voluntarily.

Dhankhar's Resignation and Political Speculation

Dhankhar suddenly resigned on Monday. He cited health reasons behind his resignation, but the lack of a detailed statement from his side has given rise to suspicion. His term was until August 2027. Several opposition parties, including the Congress, are directly linking this resignation to pressure within the central government.

Opposition Allegations: Judicial Dispute is the Reason?

The Congress has made another serious allegation that Dhankhar was forced to resign when he accepted a notice filed by opposition MPs. This notice was regarding the demand to remove Justice Yashwant Verma. Information had come to light in this matter about bundles of burnt notes being recovered from Verma's residence, which further escalated the dispute. The Congress says that this decision was disliked by the government and pressure was put on Dhankhar.

Farewell Ongoing in Rajya Sabha

Amidst this entire episode, the Rajya Sabha is going to bid farewell to its six members - Anbumani Ramadoss, Vaiko, P. Wilson, M. Shanmugam, M. Mohammed Abdullah, and N. Chandrasekaran on Thursday. In such a situation, the Congress's question becomes even more important: when there can be a dignified farewell for Rajya Sabha members, why shouldn't a person who has held a high constitutional post like the Vice President receive this honor?
