Sitamarhi: A significant police operation against the Ranjan Pathak gang in Bihar's Sitamarhi district has brought a terrifying truth to light. Police have arrested a contract killer who murdered a CSP operator by firing 5 bullets in merely 3 seconds. This arrest has exposed the terror-spreading activities of the Ranjan Pathak gang.
Murder of a CSP Operator in Sitamarhi
On September 29, 2025, Shravan Kumar Yadav, a CSP operator, was murdered in the Chauraut police station area of Sitamarhi district. Three unknown bike-borne assailants shot him outside his shop. CCTV footage showed three criminals without helmets. Immediately after the incident, the victim's father lodged an FIR against the unknown perpetrators.
Taking this matter seriously, SP Amit Ranjan constituted an SIT. During the investigation, Mahanand Kumar alias Mahanand Yadav was arrested a week later. He confessed to his involvement in the incident and admitted that the Ranjan Pathak gang had offered a contract of 1.70 lakh rupees, out of which he was to receive 50,000 rupees.
Illegal Pistol and Cartridges Recovered from Saroj Kumar
Mahanand Kumar informed the police that he had fired five bullets at the CSP operator in just three seconds, resulting in Shravan Kumar Yadav's death on the spot. According to the police, the pistol used in the crime had been hidden with Saroj Kumar and was later recovered by the SIT.
Following Mahanand's disclosure, Saroj Kumar was arrested. During the search, an illegal pistol and 10 cartridges were also seized from his residence. Both accused have been sent to judicial custody.
Horrific Activities of the Ranjan Pathak Gang
The Ranjan Pathak gang had long been involved in numerous incidents of murder and crime across Sitamarhi and Sheohar districts. The gang's activities had kept the local police on high alert. Following the arrest of the contract killer and the recovery of the pistol, the likelihood of apprehending several other gang members has increased.
SP Ranjan stated that the gang's horrific activities are under strict surveillance, and more stringent measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
Police Investigation Underway
Police reported that a thorough investigation into the case is ongoing. The SIT is probing other aspects of the case, including potential accomplices of the gang and the supply of weapons. Police have also urged local residents to immediately report any suspicious activity.
The District Police affirmed that continuous action will be taken against the Ranjan Pathak gang and its operatives to ensure law and order is maintained in the district.
