For Diwali-Chhath, the Union Cabinet decided to run 1200 special trains to enhance facilities for railway passengers. Four new railway projects were also approved, which will lead to network expansion, capacity enhancement, and modernization.
New Delhi: In a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, significant decisions were made for railway passengers. Considering the increased demand from travelers during festive seasons like Diwali and Chhath, the Cabinet has decided to operate 1200 special trains. Through these special trains, 12000 train services will be made available to passengers across the country. This initiative aims to provide convenience and comfort to railway commuters.
Approval for Four New Railway Projects
Four new railway projects have been approved in the meeting. The objective of these projects is to expand and modernize (modernization) the railway network. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that these projects would be completed within the next three to five years. The implementation of these projects will enhance the efficiency of railway services and improve both freight and passenger transportation.
India Emerging as a Leader in Global Railway Infrastructure
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that with these projects, India has now emerged as the world's second-largest country in freight transportation. He informed that due to significant improvements and expansion in the railway network over the past ten years, India has surpassed nations like the USA. The minister also highlighted that the expansion of railway projects would not only yield economic benefits but also contribute to environmental protection (environment-friendly transport).
Expansion of Railway Corridors
It was also decided in the meeting that major railway corridors would be expanded. Seven railway corridors currently handle 41% of the total rail traffic. There are now plans to construct a minimum of four lanes and, where feasible, six lanes in these corridors. This expansion will significantly boost rail transport capacity and accelerate both freight and passenger movement.
Cost Benefits from Railway Projects
The Union Minister stated that these projects would lead to a reduction in logistics costs (logistics cost). The expansion and modernization of railway projects will expedite the movement of goods and also save time. The minister added that, like other countries, India has prioritized railways because it is a cost-effective, environment-friendly, and economically efficient mode of transport.
Passenger Convenience During Festive Season
During Diwali and Chhath, the demand from railway passengers increases significantly. Convenience will be provided to passengers through special trains. Passengers will receive timely information about trains, and the reservation process will be simplified. This decision will ensure the comfort and safety of travelers during the festival season.
