Chief Minister Rekha Gupta resolved to ensure safety and cleanliness on the occasion of Chhath Mahaparv. 17 model ghats will be constructed in Delhi, with arrangements for medical facilities, lighting, and cultural programs for devotees.
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in view of Chhath Mahaparv, held a meeting with Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena and resolved to ensure a safe and clean environment for devotees in the capital. Delhi's Culture Minister Kapil Mishra, along with senior officials from the Delhi and Haryana governments, were also present at the meeting. The Chief Minister stated that the government is committed to providing every devotee with a grand and organized Chhath festival experience.
Review of Preparations at the Meeting
The Chief Minister informed the meeting that coordination has also been established with the Chief Minister's Offices of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh for Chhath preparations. To celebrate this festival on a large scale in Delhi, the government is arranging ghats, and a decision on Chhath holidays will also be taken soon. Sharing a picture from the meeting, Rekha Gupta stated that these preparations are underway under the supervision of the entire team and the Lieutenant Governor.
Development of Ghats in Delhi
The Chief Minister announced that more than 1,000 ghats will be developed in the capital. Along the Yamuna river, 17 model ghats are being constructed, stretching from Palla in the north to Kalindi Kunj in the south. Each model ghat will be equipped with tents, toilets, drinking water, and lighting arrangements. There will be at least one model ghat in each district. Cultural programs in Bhojpuri and Maithili will be organized at 200 locations across these ghats.
Special Focus on Safety and Cleanliness
The Chief Minister clarified in the meeting that the Delhi government is placing special emphasis on safety and cleanliness during Chhath Mahaparv. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa visited the ITO Chhath Ghat, reviewed the cleanliness drive, and participated in it. MP Manoj Tiwari and Minister Ravinder Indraj also inspected the cleanliness drives at the ghats.
Arrangement of Other Facilities
Officials informed that arrangements for medical vans, sanitation workers, and mobile toilets are being finalized at most ghats. Keeping in mind the safety and convenience of devotees, floral decorations and grand entrance gates are being prepared to welcome those coming to offer 'Arghya' to the setting and rising sun on October 27 and 28.
The Chief Minister also stated that cases registered concerning law and order issues during Chhath Mahaparv in 2021 will be withdrawn. This step will provide support and confidence to the devotees, offering them an opportunity to celebrate the festival without any hindrance.
Special Attention for Purvanchalis
Delhi has a large population of Purvanchalis. It is estimated that they constitute more than one-sixth of the capital's total population. Chhath Mahaparv holds special significance for the people of Purvanchal. The Chief Minister said that the government is making full preparations to ensure their religious and cultural experience is safe and well-organized.
