New Delhi: The Delhi government has launched a new initiative to control rising air pollution in the capital. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced on Monday that an Innovation Challenge has been launched to make the capital's air clean and breathable.
Under this initiative, citizens and institutions can share their new technologies, ideas, and solutions with the government through an online portal. The Minister stated that suggestions found useful will be implemented, which will help improve Delhi's air.
GRAP-1 Implemented in NCR
Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the capital and NCR continues to remain in the 'poor' category. GRAP-1 has been implemented following a meeting of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
This means that construction activities larger than 500 meters are conditionally restricted, burning of waste is prohibited, and regular cleaning and water sprinkling are mandatory to suppress road dust. Additionally, restrictions have been placed on the use of diesel generators.
Public Cooperation for Pollution Reduction
The government has appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary vehicle use, adopt carpooling, and utilize public transport. These measures will not only improve air quality but also reduce noise and dust pollution in the city.
Weather experts state that the pollution situation may remain severe for the next few days. In such a scenario, active public participation will be crucial in purifying the air.
Growing Threats to Delhi's Air
In winter, Delhi's air becomes toxic due to stubble burning, vehicular emissions, construction dust, and seasonal conditions. This time, the government believes that the capital's air can become somewhat cleaner through public suggestions and innovative measures.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that this initiative will succeed not just through government efforts but with active public participation. The government has assured that all effective solutions will be implemented quickly to provide clean and healthy air to Delhi residents.
