Delhi's Najafgarh Area Submerged as Mangeshpur Drain Embankment Breaches

Flood-like conditions have emerged in Rawta village and Geetanjali Enclave in the Najafgarh area due to the breaking of the Mangeshpur drain embankment in Delhi-Haryana. Many houses have been inundated, and large-scale relief and rescue operations are underway.

New Delhi: Flood-like situations have arisen in Rawta village and Geetanjali Enclave in the Najafgarh area since Tuesday night due to the breaking of the Mangeshpur drain embankment in Delhi-Haryana. Water has entered many houses, causing severe difficulties for the residents. Police from Baba Haridas Nagar police station, NDRF, DDMA, MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, local councilors, and other officials are engaged in relief and rescue efforts. The administration has deployed a team of ACP Mahesh Narayan and over 30 police personnel for relief work, while affected people are expressing dissatisfaction regarding the arrangements and the management of relief camps.

Floods Worsen People's Difficulties

Water started accumulating in the area from Tuesday night itself. According to local residents, in many places, the water level reached between 6 to 11 feet. Due to the floods, household belongings were swept away, and many families had to abandon their homes overnight to seek safer locations.

Local resident Rani mentioned that her entire house was submerged in water, making it difficult to safely evacuate her children. Ram Sumit Rai stated that this is the first time they have experienced such severe flooding. People are questioning why the administration did not issue a warning if they were aware of the potential water threat beforehand.

Relief Efforts Commence in Baba Haridas Nagar

Upon receiving information, teams from Baba Haridas Nagar police station, NDRF, and DDMA arrived at the scene. MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, the local councilor, and Amit Kharkhari, Deputy Chairman of the MCD Education Committee, are also involved in the relief operations.

DCP Dwarka, Ankit Singh, informed that over 30 police personnel, led by ACP Mahesh Narayan, are actively engaged in relief work. Affected individuals have been moved to safe locations, and relief camps have been established.

People Express Anger Over Administration's Negligence

Although the administration has intensified relief efforts, local residents are upset about the lack of prior warnings and the disorganization at the relief camps. Savita commented that the administration should have been better prepared. She further shared that it was very challenging to leave her home with her children, and the facilities at the relief camp were inadequate.

While some people have appreciated the administration's prompt action, the majority are questioning the lack of preparedness before the floodwaters rose.

Breaking of Mangeshpur Drain Embankment Worsens Flooding

The breach of the Mangeshpur drain embankment, coupled with continuous rainfall, has exacerbated the flood situation. Inadequate drainage systems in the Najafgarh area are also contributing to this problem.

The administration has deployed special teams to clear debris and facilitate water drainage in the waterlogged areas. Relief materials are being distributed to the affected people, who are also being transported to safer locations.
