DRDO Successfully Tests Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket

DRDO successfully flight tests the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR) with a range of 120km, enhancing India's defence capabilities. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hails it as a 'game changer'.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is consistently achieving new milestones in strengthening the country's military capabilities. In this regard, DRDO registered another major success on Monday.

New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a significant feat in the direction of taking India's defence capabilities to new heights. DRDO has successfully completed the first flight test of the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR). The test was conducted at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha, further underlining the strength of India's indigenous defence technology on the global stage.

Accurate Strike Range of up to 120 Kilometers

According to DRDO, the maximum range of the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket is approximately 120 kilometers. During the test, the rocket met all pre-defined parameters and accurately hit its target with extreme precision. The rocket was successful in performing all necessary maneuvers during its flight, confirming its advanced guidance and control system.

This capability of the Pinaka LRGR will enable the Indian Army to make precise strikes on enemy targets from long distances, providing a strategic advantage on the battlefield.

Advanced Weapon System Developed with Indigenous Technology

The Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket has been designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in collaboration with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL). In addition, the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) and the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) provided technical support. The responsibility for test operations was borne by ITR Chandipur and Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE).

This collaboration demonstrates b coordination between the various institutions of DRDO and India's self-reliant defence production capability. The Pinaka LRGR was tested from an in-service Pinaka launcher, proving the versatility of this system. This means that different range variants of Pinaka can be launched from the same launcher. This feature not only reduces logistical complexities but also proves helpful in rapid deployment and operations during wartime.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Calls it a “Game Changer”

Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman DRDO, Dr. Samir V. Kamat, personally oversaw the test. He congratulated all the scientists, engineers and technical teams involved in the mission for this success. The Indian Ministry of Defence shared information about this success through its official social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and all stakeholders, terming the successful test of Pinaka LRGR a “game changer”.

He said that the successful design and development of long-range guided rockets will increase the striking capability, accuracy and operational effectiveness of the Indian Armed Forces manifold. This achievement brings India to a ber position in the field of global defence technology.
