The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the central contracts for the England women's cricket team for the 2025/26 season. This time, a total of 17 players have been awarded full central contracts and 4 players have received skills contracts.

SPORTS NEWS: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has officially announced the central contracts for the England women's cricket team for the 2025-26 season. This time, a total of 17 players have been awarded full central contracts and 4 players have received skills contracts. The Board has aimed to strengthen preparations for the coming years by striking a balance between young talent and experienced players.

In this list, 10 players have received new one-year central contracts, while 7 players are entering the second year of their previously issued two-year contracts. However, the most notable name to be left out of this list is Kate Cross, who has been an experienced fast bowler for England.

Linsey Smith Receives First Full Central Contract

The biggest highlight of this announcement is the name of Linsey Smith, who has been awarded a full central contract for the first time. She made her international cricket debut seven years ago and gradually earned her place in the team through hard work. In her ODI debut against West Indies in May 2024, she grabbed five wickets, drawing everyone's attention.

Besides her, M. Earlott and Emma Lamb have been awarded skills contracts for the first time. M. Earlott recently made her international debut at the age of 27 in a home series, while Emma Lamb began her career with a T20 International match against New Zealand in 2021. After recovering from back surgery, Lamb is returning to the team and is ready to prove herself again under the guidance of new head coach Charlotte Edwards.

Skills contracts were previously known as Development Contracts. In this category, in addition to Earlott and Lamb, Ryana Macdonald-Gay and Issy Wong have also been included.

Experienced Kate Cross Excluded from List

The most surprising aspect of this year's central contract list is the exclusion of 34-year-old experienced fast bowler Kate Cross. She had already indicated in September that she had been informed of this decision by the board. Currently, she has not made any official announcement regarding her future.

Reacting to this, Clare Connor, Managing Director of the England Women's team, stated that the doors for selection always remain open for any player in domestic cricket, and performance will be the basis for selection. She also clarified that this decision has been made keeping future strategy in mind.

  • Existing Contracts: Lauren Bell, Charlie Dean, Sophie Ecclestone, Heather Knight, Amy Jones, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Danni Wyatt-Hodge.
  • Players Receiving New One-Year Contracts: Tammy Beaumont, Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, Sophia Dunkley, Lauren Filer, Mahika Gaur, Danielle Gibson, Sarah Glenn, Freya Kemp, Linsey Smith.
  • New Skills Contracts: M. Earlott, Emma Lamb, Ryana Macdonald-Gay, Issy Wong.

Clare Connor stated that this team is an excellent example of the balance between young and experienced players, and it reflects England's long-term plans. Their main goal is the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup, with the final to be played on July 5th at the historic Lord's ground. She added that watching India win the Women's World Cup in their home country has been inspiring for the entire cricketing world, and England also aims to assert its dominance on the big stage in the same way.
