ED Raids TMC MLA Jiban Krishna Saha's House in West Bengal Teacher Recruitment Scam. Money laundering and fake appointment investigation continues, Supreme Court takes a strict stance.
ED Raids: In the investigation of the teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a major operation at the Murshidabad residence of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Jiban Krishna Saha. Saha is accused of taking bribes to secure fraudulent appointments in state-aided schools. This raid is part of a money laundering investigation, which is examining the illegal proceeds and financial irregularities associated with the scam.
ED Raid at Saha's House
Jiban Krishna Saha first came into the spotlight in April 2023 when the CBI conducted a 60-hour long search at his residence. During that search, mobile phones were recovered from a pond, allegedly thrown there to destroy evidence. The CBI arrested Saha on April 17, 2023. Since then, both the ED and CBI have been investigating this scam.
The ED's current action is part of the same investigation, in which efforts are being made to gather new evidence. According to sources, Saha's wife, Tagari Saha, along with other family members, have also been questioned in this case.
Unveiling of the Teacher Recruitment Scam
This entire case is related to the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC), where it is alleged that thousands of teachers and non-teaching staff were fraudulently appointed. It is said that large sums of money were taken for these appointments. Saha is accused of using his influence to take bribes from several candidates and get them teaching jobs in schools.
Investigating agencies say that this scam is not limited to appointments alone, but also involves several angles of money laundering. This is the reason why the ED has taken a strict stance on this and is conducting a thorough investigation into the money transactions involved in the scam.
Supreme Court's Strict Stance
In April 2024, the Supreme Court had cancelled thousands of illegal appointments made in this scam. The court had ordered that a new and transparent process be adopted in place of these appointments, so that eligible candidates could get justice.
The review petitions filed against this were dismissed by the Supreme Court on August 5, 2025, which further strengthened its decision. The court made it clear that people who have been illegally appointed cannot be kept in the job under any circumstances.
Arrests and Investigations of TMC Leaders
Many senior TMC leaders have also been acted against in this scam. The arrest of former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee had created a political stir throughout the state. Saha is also accused of using his political influence to carry out this scam. Both the CBI and ED agencies are constantly making new revelations in this case. Many leaders and officers have been questioned, and the investigation is still ongoing.
