Elderly Digital Addiction: Prayagraj Cases Highlight Severe Health Impacts of Mobile Overuse

Recent cases in Prayagraj reveal the detrimental health effects of mobile phone addiction among the elderly, including pressure sores and mental health deterioration. Experts urge moderation and family monitoring.

Prayagraj | A retired elderly man in Prayagraj recently came into the spotlight when his mobile phone addiction severely affected his health. This former security guard had developed a deep habit of constantly looking at his phone. After retirement, he spent most of his time on his mobile, which led to him developing a "pressure sore" on his spine.

Furthermore, another senior citizen experienced insomnia and stopped eating and drinking due to continuous phone use. When his family advised him to refrain from using the phone, he began thrashing his limbs on the bed like a child. His mental condition deteriorated to the extent that he had to be admitted to the hospital's ICU.

Doctors and psychiatrists state that over-reliance on mobile phones is no longer limited to youth or children; the elderly are also falling victim to this "digital addiction." Constant screen time, prolonged sitting, and being engaged with phones day and night are impacting their health, both mentally and physically.

Experts suggest that the elderly should also use smartphones and similar devices in moderation. Additionally, families should monitor the behavior of the elderly and seek timely medical help if needed.
