Pratapgarh witnessed an uproar following allegations of a newborn being switched at a hospital. The accusation is that after a newborn died at the hospital, the deceased infant's body was handed over to the family. Simultaneously, another woman at the hospital had given birth to a healthy baby.
The family suspects that the healthy newborn was handed over to them as their child. They initiated a dispute with the hospital administration and other relatives regarding this matter. Considering the gravity of the situation, the family immediately called the police and demanded an investigation into the entire incident.
According to the information received, the hospital administration and police took the incident seriously. A panchayat (a local council or meeting) was held for 21 hours to resolve the dispute, but no conclusion was reached. Following this, the family agreed to conduct a post-mortem of the deceased infant's body and decided to undergo DNA testing to identify the real parents.
The hospital management has formed a three-member committee to investigate the entire matter. This investigation will include reviewing ward footage, hospital records, and documents. The administration stated that the situation will become clear only after the investigation is completed.
The incident has also caused significant concern and dissatisfaction among local residents — people are questioning why transparency and reliability are not maintained in such sensitive matters at hospitals.
