Sonbhadra Codeine Syrup Smuggling: Shaili Traders Linked to ₹425 Crore Financial Irregularities

Investigation into Sonbhadra's illegal codeine syrup racket uncovers Shaili Traders' ₹425 crore financial transactions. Authorities freeze accounts and issue notices.

A third major revelation has emerged in the ongoing investigation into the illegal codeine syrup smuggling in the Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. Investigative agencies have discovered that a firm named Shaili Traders has conducted suspicious financial transactions amounting to approximately ₹425 crore over the past two years.

Out of the bank accounts involved in the investigation, 30 accounts have been frozen, with approximately ₹60 lakh in cash deposits found. This action is expected to help trace the money trail of the smuggled funds.

The smuggling racket used fake billing, shell firms, and forged documents to present the drugs as part of legitimate businesses and supply them illegally. Notices have been issued to the firm's managers, and they have been asked to submit financial documents and evidence by December 10th through their chartered accountant.

Officials state that the investigation into this case is still ongoing, and efforts are being made to identify other firms, agents, and distributors associated with the racket. The police and the Drugs Control Department are collaboratively working to completely expose this illegal network.
