In Dehradun's Jakhan area, 75-year-old Kaushalya Devi was attacked by two Rottweiler dogs, leaving her severely injured. She received over 200 stitches on her body and underwent multiple surgeries. Since the incident,
she has also been mentally distressed, hearing the dogs' growls even in her sleep. Approximately ₹2.5 lakh has been spent on her treatment so far, and two more surgeries are required. Her only son has also had to leave his
work to frequent the hospital, impacting the family's financial situation. Police have registered a case against the dog owner, Mohammed Zaid, but no concrete action has been taken
yet. Local residents had previously complained about the danger posed by these dogs, but no action was taken.
This incident has alerted the Dehradun Municipal Corporation, and they have approved a new policy to prevent stray dog attacks. Under this policy, there are plans to train aggressive dogs, implement
strict rules for pet dogs, and establish dog feeding shelters in each ward. Furthermore, there is a provision for imposing fines for feeding dogs in open public spaces.
